Who We Are & Why We Began
The New Zealand Amateur Tennis Association (NZATA) is a volunteer-led, registered non-profit sports charity dedicated to serving local tennis players across New Zealand.
Born from a Passion for Fair Play & Community Connection
New Zealand enjoys beautiful outdoor court spaces and a deep sporting culture. However, as everyday players, we identified a persistent gap in our community: a lack of well-regulated, affordable, and completely non-commercial competitive play for recreational tennis lovers.
Traditional club memberships can be costly and intimidating, while private commercial leagues often prioritize turnover, leading to rushed scheduling, uncertified coordination, and high entry fees.
In 2025, a group of dedicated local tennis enthusiasts, certified volunteer coaches, and community organizers came together to establish the New Zealand Amateur Tennis Association (NZATA). Our core goal is simple: to bring the structured integrity of professional competitive tournaments to recreational, community-focused play. Whether you are an NTRP 2.5 player testing your baseline skills, or an advanced 4.5+ competitor looking for high-intensity sets, you will find respect, structure, and safe sportsmanship at NZATA.
Non-Profit Operations & Volunteer Declaration
The New Zealand Amateur Tennis Association (NZATA) is legally registered in New Zealand as a non-profit amateur sports organization under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. It is incorporated as NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR TENNIS ASSOCIATION INC (Incorporation Number: 50227241, NZBN: 9429052645730, Incorporated on 20 February 2025).
"We formally declare: 100% of all operating income, tournament entry fees, membership subscriptions, and corporate sponsorships is strictly reinvested into renting local court venues, purchasing tennis balls and tournament gear, obtaining public liability insurance, and acquiring amateur participant prizes. NZATA does not have shareholders. All board members, match coordinators, and coaches operate on a 100% voluntary, unpaid basis. No individual draws any commercial salary, dividend, or personal profit from the organization's funds."

Our Mission
To provide high-quality, structured, and safe tennis tournaments that bring together players across local New Zealand neighborhoods. We advocate tennis as a lifelong healthy sport and commit to rigorous financial transparency, ensuring every dollar received directly benefits Aotearoa's public court access and community players.
Our Vision
To establish NZATA as the most trusted, volunteer-run amateur tennis network in New Zealand, expanding our non-profit seasonal leagues to Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton. We aim to secure public sponsorships to provide 100% free tennis equipment and coaching for underprivileged youths.
